Mandibular Advancement Splints

Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS) Therapy for Sleep Apnoea
Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS) therapy is an effective, non-invasive treatment option for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea and snoring. MAS works by gently repositioning the lower jaw forward during sleep, helping to keep the airway open and reduce breathing interruptions.
MAS therapy is often suited to patients who prefer an alternative to CPAP, travel frequently, or are unable to tolerate CPAP therapy. Each device is custom-made to fit your teeth, ensuring comfort, stability, and effectiveness.

- Custom-made: MAS devices are individually fabricated using digital scans of your teeth for a precise fit.
- Comfort-focused design: Modern splints are slim, adjustable, and designed for overnight comfort.
- Quiet and portable: MAS therapy is silent and easy to travel with.
- Adjustable advancement: The jaw position can be gradually adjusted to optimise effectiveness while maintaining comfort.
Starting MAS Therapy
Your suitability for MAS therapy is assessed through a clinical review with a CRS Specialist Dentist. If appropriate, a custom device is created and fitted, followed by review appointments to adjust and optimise the splint.
Ongoing follow-up is important to ensure comfort, effectiveness, and dental health over time.

Frequently Asked Questions
We all have questions, hopefully we have answered some of yours below. If not, please reach out. We'd love to help!
Most patients adjust well to MAS therapy. Mild jaw or tooth discomfort can occur initially but usually resolves as you adapt and adjustments are made.
Temporary jaw stiffness or bite changes can occur, particularly in the morning. Regular reviews help monitor and manage these effects.
Adjustment typically occurs over a few weeks, with gradual advancement and follow-up to optimise comfort and effectiveness.
Effectiveness is assessed through symptom improvement and, in some cases a MAS treatment sleep study can be done to confirm efficacy.
For suitable patients, MAS can be used as an alternative to CPAP. In some cases, it may also be used alongside other therapies as part of a combined treatment approach.
