Comprehensive Lung Function Test

A Comprehensive Lung Function Test (sometimes called a complex lung test or complex breathing test) checks how well your lungs work. It measures how much air you can breathe in and out, how easily air moves through your airways, and how well oxygen passes from your lungs into your blood. Doctors use this test to find out if you have a lung problem, how serious it is, and how it changes over time.

What happens during the test?

- Breathing in and out: You wear a nose clip so air only goes through your mouth. You breathe into a mouthpiece, first normally, then take a big breath in and blow it out fast and hard. This shows how strong and clear your airways are.

- Inhaler Trial: Sometimes you’ll be given a puff of medicine (like Ventolin) to see if it helps open your airways.

- Oxygen transfer: You breathe in a special air mix, hold it for six seconds, then breathe out gently. The machine checks how well oxygen moves through your lungs.

- Lung size: You sit in a clear booth and breathe through the mouthpiece while doing a gentle panting action. This shows your total lung capacity.

Friendly technicians guide you through each step, so you’ll know exactly what to do.
